The Leigh Pick 'n' Mix
Walkers: Farty, T.B., 6 legs (Chris on medical duties - and she has some rather fetching bruises after last week's fall), Windy , Mrs. P., Lil and Clat.
Distance: 73/4 miles
Find of the Walk: a telephonic pumpkin
Another early start - well done! Stonking blue skies, mixed with the fabulous autumn colours, made for a lovely walk today. We mixed up various routes, to provide a bit of a change, and off we went at quite a pace. This continued until near the end, when a bit of signage (misread by Clat), meant we had to change course - but we made it in the end.
The mud, however, slowed us down somewhat, and the numerous stiles were 'slippery when wet' and a lot of cocking of legs had to be performed - hey ho. Ironically, no cattle or horses were encountered in the fields (and we had no Chris) and all we found were a few un-tupped sheep. We plodded along and came to the 3 Horseshoes at Irons Bottom. It was 1145, they 'don't open until 12' and 'by the way no dogs are allowed' so we sat on their benches outside and consumed our own beverages. Don't think we shall be coming here again....................
There isn't really much more to tell - we walked a lot, talked a lot, and looked forward to our lunch a lot! The Plough, we are pleased to report, is back to its normal good standard, with a warm welcome, table-service, and really good, hearty food. Cheers! see you next week xxx
