Handcross, The Red Lion/Staplefield The Victory

Victorious at The Victory!

Tuesday 28th February
Walkers: Farty, TB, Windy No-hills, Sue and Chris

Staplefield Church
Find of the walk: a Jockey's hat
Distance: 7 1/2 miles
A mild cloudy day - we parked in the enormous car park of the Red Lion, Handcross and set off to follow the Sussex Ouse Valley Way to be almost immediately confronted by a path diversion through Nyman's car park. No matter on we went. This so Farty thought was a brand new walk, but then her map was brand new too and as they were to discover parts of it had been done before (by some of the intrepid Rahras June 18th 2010).
Ditton Place
Heading East through NT woodland and glorious countryside, but misty views we passed Ditton Place and turned south passed the White House and then westerly past Old Hall. Everyone was very hot so we cut out the overly ambitious loop drawn on the new map and road-walked to Staplefield and checked out a possible pub, The Victory. Turning north we headed back to Handcross. On close examination The Red Lion wasn't 'our cup of tea' at all. So we decamped back to Staplefield and had a most pleasant lunch at The Victory. Good welcome, good choice of food served until 3pm, dogs permitted in the bar (and given water and biscuits!) and open all day. The only thing not to like was the price of a lime and soda (but if you will drink alcohol-free...ed)

find of the walk: jockeys cap
See you all next week at Warnham, Sussex Oak: once more with feeling!
